BSC KUCHING: On 21 April 2019, Blessed Sacrament Church celebrated Easter with great rejoicing. Easter Sunday is also known as Resurrection Sunday and it is a time to contemplate on Christ’s sacrificial love and the wonder and significance of His resurrection.

BSC was bedecked in cheerful yellow decorations and flowers. It was overflowing with congregants. The Chinese Easter Mass was celebrated by Fr. Lawrence Chua while Fr. Felix Au presided over the English Mass.

Fr. Felix warmly welcomed the faithful. In his homily, he expressed sadness over the fire that destroyed the spire and roof of the 850-year-old Gothic cathedral – Notre-Dame in Paris. He believed the fire was a wake-up call for Catholics to return to the church.

Fr. Felix also said the fire was an act of divine love for Christians; to turn away from the path of destruction and return to God and His love. We are to put God first.

The lighting of candles by the parishioners symbolised the renewal of our baptismal promises. The Mass ended with Fr. Felix blessing the congregation and inviting them to enjoy the light refreshments provided by the church to strengthen fellowship.

In conjunction with the Easter celebrations, the Chinese Children’s Liturgy and Sunday School organised some fun activities for children from 9.30 a.m – 12 noon at BSC Hall. It began with a welcoming speech and opening prayer by William Ting from the Chinese Liaison Committee, followed by the screening of a video about Easter.

There was a delicious array of potluck food to serve everyone. Besides that, the children and their families also enjoyed taking pictures against the creative Happy Easter backdrop at the Hall.

The Easter eggs colouring contest attracted 50 kids who enjoyed themselves tremendously. Their parents were by their side encouraging them on.

The event was a great success. It ended at 12 noon with Jen Foo and Patrick Tie giving away prizes to the winners.
