KUCHING – A Joint Service was held on 20 December at the Christian Ecumenical Worship Centre to celebrate Christmas with hymns and prayers for peace in the world and the nation, for reconciliation, for the poor, destitute, refugees, migrants, and for families.
About 2,000 people attended the annual event organised by the Association of Churches in Sarawak (ACS) with the theme “Perfect Gift”, hosted this year by the Anglican Church.
ACS is the umbrella body of Sarawak’s churches and comprises the Anglican, Baptist, Catholic, Methodist, Seventh-Day Adventist, Borneo Evangelical Mission and Salvation Army denominations.
A combined choir performed a selection of Christmas songs, while Scripture readings were in Bahasa Malaysia, English, Mandarin, Bidayuh and Iban.
The Christmas Message was delivered by Rev Danald Jute, Anglican Bishop of Sarawak and Brunei.
ACS chairman, Rev Dato’ Dr. Justin Wan led the opening prayer, with the closing benediction performed by Kuching Catholic Archbishop Simon Poh.
